Good news are always great to hear. And with all the negative publicity celebrities usually get, it’s even better when good and positive news are coming from them. This is one of those news.
Rihanna used her superstar status to launch a scholarship program for international students who are hoping to attend college in the US.
A program is called The Clara Lionel Foundation, and is named after Rihanna’s grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. Since Rihanna is a Caribbean girl, the scholarship will be open to citizens or natives of Brazil, Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, or Jamaica. They will be giving away scholarships from $5,000 to $50,000, depending on several criteria, such as previous accomplishments and efforts.
The main goal of this program is to give kids in developing countries better education than they can afford or get in their countries. She hopes her scholarship program will help improving arts, culture, and health in her home country and globally.
“Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities, and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this,” said Rihanna.
You’ll have to agree – it’s a really wonderful news. It’s not major as some other celebs’ donations, but it’s going to the right place – to children who should be our future. And it’s really great to see some of the biggest stars stop for a minute and make a statement about how important proper education is.
